Melissa Porter-Krum

Melissa holds the position Youth Programs Compliance Specialist in the Department of Ethics and Compliance at Penn State University. Her responsibilities include validating and maintaining a comprehensive inventory of all youth activities occurring on Penn State campuses as well as University-sponsored activities off-campus.  She also is responsible for ensuring that youth programs and their participants comply with university policies and procedures, particularly those related to the safety and security of non-student minors.

Prior to joining the Office of Ethics and Compliance Melissa worked in Penn State Human Resource’s Talent Acquisition Department in a recruiting capacity serving the entire Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. During the four years in this role, she gained valuable knowledge about the academic environment and policies of Penn State.

Melissa has a long history of working with children and youth programming, beginning as a Program Assistant for Shaver’s Creek Environmental Center. She worked in central North Carolina for many years in mental health doing family therapy and intervention primarily with child victims of sexual abuse.

Melissa served an eight-year term on the Penns Valley School Board in a leadership role.  Melissa’s experience with team building and organizational leadership continued to grow over the tenure of her elected position.  Melissa has many years of experience with data analysis, labor and employee relations, process analysis and improvement and talent acquisition. Her education and experience provide a broad foundation for this position. 

Melissa earned a Bachelor of Arts (BA) Geography focused on Geographic Information Science and Cartography from University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She is a currently a member of College and University Professional Association, the American Camp Association and The Higher Education Protection Network.
